Our design team was approached to create a new home for a young fishing family in the breathtaking Mangamaunu Bay.
The sloping site inspired our designers to carve out a long cut into the hillside, allowing us to stretch a structure along the contours to obtain coastal views from almost every room in the house. One of the main challenges we faced was finding a way to capture the views while still allowing ample north-west evening sunlight into the living spaces. To address this issue, we incorporated clerestory windows, which enable natural light to flood the main living spaces from all sides. The tall, open rooms create a perfect balance between the horizontal and vertical spaces, resulting in a home that feels both spacious and cozy.
