Florance Residence
Complete Projects provided full architectural design services for the Florance Residence, a new lifestyle home located on Schoolhouse Road in Kaikōura and designed to support long-term retirement living in a spectacular rural setting.
Working closely with the clients from the early concept stage, the project focused on creating a modern and comfortable home that balanced everyday functionality with generous spaces for entertaining and accommodating visiting family and friends. The design sought to make the most of the surrounding landscape while providing a warm, practical, and highly liveable environment suited to retirement living.
The property presented several site-specific challenges, including flood hazard considerations and exposure to strong coastal and rural winds. In response, careful attention was given to site planning, building orientation, shelter design, and outdoor living integration to ensure the home remained comfortable, durable, and well protected throughout the year.
Complete Projects guided the project from initial briefing and concept design through to developed design and building consent documentation, coordinating the wider consultant team including structural and geotechnical engineering inputs as part of the approval process.
The final design features raised ceilings, generous covered outdoor living areas, and carefully framed views toward the Kaikōura ranges, helping create a strong connection between the home and its surrounding environment. The layout prioritises natural light, indoor-outdoor flow, and long-term functionality while maintaining a refined and relaxed architectural aesthetic appropriate for the rural lifestyle setting.
This project reflects Complete Projects’ collaborative approach to residential design – creating homes tailored not only to the site, but also to the lifestyle, future needs, and long-term goals of the people living in them.
